In Greek mythology, Maia (Greek Μαία, meaning "little mother") is the eldest of the Pleiades, the seven daughters of Atlas and Pleyone. She and her sisters, born on Mount Cilene in Arcadia, are sometimes called mountain goddesses. Maia was the oldest, the most beautiful and shy. Maia is the mother of Zeus.

In Roman mythology, Maia or Maya was the goddess of spring, and as such she received her name in her honor in the month of May.

In Hindu mythology, Maia is for many the mother goddess or creative principle.
